Nose Block :
When the tissues inside the nose become swollen and irritated, it is called a nose block. The inner swelling makes it difficult for the individual to breathe. It can occur due to exposure to smoke, dust or allergens. Nose block can also be a symptom of various respiratory problems. The inflammation inside the nose is usually accompanied by drainage of mucus.
In many cases, nose blocks clear up on their own without requiring treatment. However, if it does not subside on its own in a week, then the individual may have an infection. Some individuals develop nose blocks as a reaction to spicy food or stress. The diagnosis of a nose block begins with an inquiry into the symptoms by an ENT specialist. The doctor may use a scope to check the nose, ears and throat. Depending on the patient's condition, the doctor may order tests like a throat culture or a CT scan.
