Insomnia :
Insomnia is a sleep disorder in which the individual may find it difficult to fall asleep or remain asleep. As a result, the individual may sleep too little or get poor-quality sleep. An individual affected by insomnia may not feel refreshed after waking.
Insomnia is often short-term and occurs due to stress, trauma or family pressures. Short-term insomnia can get better on its own within some weeks. Insomnia is considered chronic if it occurs for more than a month. Chronic insomnia usually occurs as a reaction to certain medicines or overuse of alcohol, caffeine and tobacco. The diagnosis of insomnia involves a review of the medical history and sleep history. The doctor will perform a physical exam and may order a sleep study. Insomnia is treated by developing good sleep habits. The patient may be provided CBT for relief from anxiety-related insomnia.
