Diabetes in Adults :
Diabetes is a condition in which there are high levels of glucose in the blood. There will be various types of diabetes, such as prediabetes, type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, and gestational diabetes. Diabetes occurs when the pancreas does not produce adequate insulin, which can cause the buildup of glucose in the blood. The symptoms which are seen in diabetes will be frequent urination, increased thirst, unexplained weight loss, blurred vision, fatigue, dry mouth, numbness, and poor wound healing of sores or cuts on the body. Diabetes will be diagnosed through blood tests, which will include a fasting blood sugar test, an HbA1C (Glycated haemoglobin test), a random blood sugar test, and, for gestational diabetes screening, an oral glucose tolerance test. The management advised for diabetes will be through regular blood sugar monitoring, a proper healthy diet by minimising carbohydrates in the diet, insulin, regular exercise, and oral medications. The complications which will be observed in diabetes will be nephropathy, neuropathy, retinopathy, skin infections, hearing loss, and gum disease.

What causes Diabetes in Young Adults?
Young adults can be affected by both type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Causes of diabetes in adults can include the following:
- Type 1 Diabetes: This is an autoimmune condition where the body's immune system mistakenly attacks and destroys the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas. It is thought to result from genetic predisposition and environmental triggers, such as viral infections.
- Type 2 Diabetes: This is caused by insulin resistance, where the body's cells do not respond effectively to insulin, leading to higher blood sugar levels.
Lifestyle factors include:
- Obesity: Excess body weight, particularly abdominal obesity.
- Unhealthy Diet: Diets high in processed foods, sugary snacks, beverages, and unhealthy fats.
- Genetics: A family history of diabetes can increase the likelihood of developing the condition.
Other Factors:
- Gestational Diabetes: This develops during pregnancy and can also increase the risk of type 2 diabetes for both the mother and child later in life.
- Medical Conditions: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and certain hormonal disorders can increase the risk of type 2 diabetes in young adults.
