Bone Cancer is the cancer that occurs in long bones and hips. Bone cancer can affect people of any age group and does not have a specific cause. Symptoms of Bone cancer although not specific in earlier stages, in advanced stages can present with small lumps that can be seen on the surface of the skin. The bone is usually fractured easily.
Bone cancer can be treated with a few modalities but in most cases, it requires surgical intervention to remove the diseased bone. This surgery if done in the initial stages, involves on the removal of a part of bone, However, in most cases, the entire leg involved in bone cancer is removed. This means that the limb is amputated. The amputated limb is usually replaced with an artificial prosthesis. Radiation therapy and Chemotherapy are used after surgery to destroy any left over cancer cells that have spread to nearby parts.
