Vertigo :
Vertigo can be described as a reeling sensation, and it can be called a symptom of an underlying disease. There are two types of vertigo such as central vertigo and peripheral vertigo. There are many causes for vertigo such as stroke, diabetes, migraine headaches, ear surgery, arrhythmia, head injuries, hyperventilation, otosclerosis, bed rest for longer time, ataxia, syphilis, acoustic neuroma, low blood pressure, brain diseases, multiple sclerosis. The other symptoms that are noticed along with vertigo are balance issues, vomiting, nausea, headaches, motions sickness, tinnitus, nystagmus. The vertigo can be diagnosed based on the physical examination, and tests such as Romberg's test, vestibular test battery, Fukuda-Unterberger test, head impulse test, CT scan, and MRI scan. The treatment of vertigo can be done with medication, vestibular rehabilitation therapy, repositioning maneuvers, surgery in rare conditions when the underlying disease becomes severe.
