Knock Knees :
Knock knees are medically termed as genu valgum. It is a condition in which the knees turn inward and touch each other, with ankles/feet being apart on standing position. This is a characteristic and self limiting feature of normal growth and development of a child who is 2 to 4 years. If it appears and worsens after age 4, then it is due to underlying health conditions such as rickets, dysplasias, fracture or tumor that turns the knee inward, and excessive weight. It is treated by correction of the cause, for instance in case of rickets the individual is treated with vitamin-D and calcium supplements. It can be surgical corrected after 10 years of age, if the condition still persists and causes pain or difficulty with running/other activities. If it is not addressed it may lead to early arthritis and severe disability.
