Angioplasty / Balloon Angioplasty :
Angioplasty is a minimally invasive procedure done to create a space inside an artery where plaque has been built up. It will let the blood flow easily and treat atherosclerosis. It involves a tiny medical balloon that pushes plaque through spots that are too narrow or blocked. They are safe procedures and are less invasive. Types of angioplasty are coronary artery angioplasty, peripheral artery angioplasty, balloon angioplasty, angioplasty without stenting, and excimer laser coronary angioplasty. Angioplasty is indicated in conditions like heart attack, carotid artery disease, chronic kidney disease, coronary artery disease, peripheral artery disease. Risks of angioplasty include a repeat blockage, abnormal heartbeats, allergic reaction to the contrast dye, damage to the blood vessels, heart attack, blood clots, low blood pressure, bleeding or infection and stroke.
