Undescended testis :
The testicles develop before the birth of a baby and it travels through tubes called as inguinal canals and reach the scrotum by the time baby is born. The reason for the testicles being in the scrotum is to keep them cooler than the rest of the body. The testicles can move up and down in the scrotum and are very mobile. The testicles are very particularly mobile during the time of stress. Undescended testis is a condition where one of the testicle or both are not seen nor felt in the scrotum. The testicle can be found in any place in the path to the scrotum such as in the inguinal canal , or out side the inguinal canal or in some other location. Pre mature babies are more prone to have undescended testicles. Physical examination is the best way to diagnose a undescended testicle. MRI, ultrasound , CT scan are not recommended. If the testicle has not moved into scrotum by 6 months of age Surgery would be the right choice of treatment. Boys with undescended testicles are more prone to have testicular cancer if it is untreated.
