Mastectomy :
Mastectomy refers to a surgery where a breast is removed. Mastectomy is done in breast cancer types like infiltrating ductal carcinoma, infiltrating lobular carcinoma, inflammatory breast cancer, and Paget's disease of the breast. Types of mastectomies include partial mastectomy, where an individual tumor is removed from the breast with a margin of healthy tissue, total mastectomy, where all breast tissue is removed, double mastectomy, done if cancer involves both the breasts, skin-sparing mastectomy or nipple-sparing mastectomy, where breast tissue is removed but not the nipple, mastectomy with breast reconstruction, modified radical mastectomy and radical mastectomy. Things that need to be considered before the surgery are planning to quit smoking, fasting, staying at the hospital, and helping at home. Complications of mastectomy include surgical wound infection, seroma, hematoma, flap necrosis, lymphedema, and post-mastectomy pain syndrome.
