Hydrocele :
A hydrocele is a condition that affects the scrotum in males. The scrotum is the pouch of skin present beneath the penis in males. A male affected by a hydrocele develops a fluid-filled sac inside the scrotum around the testis. The condition may affect one or both testis and is more common in infants than adults. In children, this condition develops due to the flow of abdominal fluid into the scrotum. In contrast, adults tend to develop this condition due to inflammation, infection or injury in the scrotum.
Besides swelling in the scrotum, a hydrocele can cause symptoms like pain, heaviness and discomfort in the area. The diagnosis of a hydrocele begins with a physical exam and is confirmed with ultrasound scans and CT scans. In most cases, hydroceles resolve on their own.
