Diabetes in Adults :
Diabetes is a condition characterized by elevated blood glucose levels due to the improper breakdown of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins due to the absence or resistance to a hormone called insulin. Adults are majorly affected by 2 types of diabetes type-1, which is an autoimmune condition that requires insulin injections and type-2, which is due to improper or absence of insulin production, which can be managed by medication and lifestyle modifications. People with diabetes experience symptoms like increased thirst, frequent urination, blurred vision, fatigue, numbness or tingling in feet, poor healing, frequent skin infections, blurry vision, and urinary tract infections. Insulin resistance, autoimmune disease, hormonal imbalances, pancreatic damage, genetic mutations, obesity, age, physical activity, smoking, and family history of diabetes are the major causes of diabetes in adults. It can be diagnosed through blood tests and urinalysis. Treatment plans include medical management, lifestyle and dietary modifications. Early consultation with an Endocrinologist is recommended to avoid further complications like cardiovascular diseases, nerve damage, kidney damage, foot damage, and infections.
