Coronary Angioplasty :
The coronary arteries are responsible for supplying the heart with the blood it needs to function. Sometimes, these arteries become clogged with fat deposits, and cause symptoms like chest pain during physical activity. Though medication can provide relief from this pain, in some cases, blockage is too severe for medicine to make any difference. In such cases, doctors recommend a procedure called a coronary angioplasty. The procedure is done using a catheter, which is a flexible tube that is inserted into the arteries via the arm or groin. The tube is guided to the blocked artery using an X-ray video. When the tube is in place, a tiny metal balloon is passed through the tube and inflated in the blocked area. When the balloon inflates, the artery widens and the deposits wash away. The procedure takes around two hours and is done under local anaesthesia.
