Corneal specialist :
A corneal specialist is a specialized eye doctor who deals with the diagnosis and treatment of diseases affecting the cornea. To pursue a career as a corneal specialist, one has to complete five and a half years of graduation to obtain an MBBS degree, pursue post graduation, MS in ophthalmology, followed by super specialization in Cornea and Anterior segment. A corneal specialist majorly treats conditions such as keratoconus, corneal disease, fuch's corneal dystrophy, corneal trauma and other ocular surface disorders. Corneal specialists also undergo extensive training to perform procedures like refractive surgery, corneal collagen cross linking, contact lens fittings for patients with corneal irregularities and corneal transplants. The common problems addressed by corneal specialists include cornea infection, changes in the shape of cornea and injuries to the cornea by conducting tests such as corneal topography, corneal biopsy and tear film assessment.
