Chest Physician :
A chest Physician is also called a pulmonologist. A chest physician is a specialized doctor who deals with diseases affecting the respiratory system. Chest physician or pulmonologist is qualified with graduation in MBBS, masters in MD, pulmonary medicine, or respiratory medicine, and some are qualified with DM or DNB in critical care medicine and pulmonary medicine. Chest physicians or pulmonologists specialize in treating various diseases of the respiratory system such as bronchiectasis, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), sleep apnea, pneumonia, tuberculosis, cystic fibrosis, sarcoidosis, interstitial lung disease, pulmonary hypertension, etc. They are well trained in performing some procedures such as bronchoscopy, sleep studies, thoracentesis, tracheal stent placement, lung biopsy, etc. When there are symptoms such as chest pain, breathlessness, persistent cough, blood in sputum, family history of respiratory diseases, blood in sputum, wheezing, loud snoring with pause in breathing during sleep (sleep apnea), etc, one should consult a Chest physician or pulmonologist.
