Neonatologist :
A neonatologist is a children's doctor with a specialization in the department of Neonatology/Newborn's Medicine. They have the academic background of a pediatrician, such as MBBS, MD/DNB/MCh in Pediatrics, and an additional DM/DNB program in neonatology. They specialize in providing treatment services to premature or preemie babies, diseased newborns, and infants. They offer critical care (NICU) services for developmentally challenged babies or diseased infants. They have vast clinical expertise in treatment services such as preventative neonatology, early stimulation therapy for developmentally delayed babies, therapeutic hypothermia, management of hyperbilirubinemia or jaundice, cyanosis, frequent assessment of high-risk neonates for congenital defects such as atrial septal defect. They work in collaboration with other pediatric surgeons and specialists to ensure complete recovery of the neonates. They specialize in quick assessment of neonates' vitals, movements and actions to address the underlying difficulties. They also provide clinical services during prenatal visits with gynecologists if required.
