Ophthalmologist :
An ophthalmologist is a doctor who has the special training to diagnose and treat problems in the eyes. Ophthalmologists are best known as the doctors who perform comprehensive eye check-ups and prescribe glasses. Furthermore, these specialists can treat various problems in the eyes, such as itching and burning, by prescribing medications. In some cases, they may treat their patients by performing surgery on the eyes.
Ophthalmologists begin diagnosing their patients by performing a slit lamp test. Patients are given special eye drops to relax the eyes before this test begins. These specialists may use a variety of equipment to check the functioning of the eyes. All ophthalmologists have the basic qualification of MBBS, but they also earn an MS in Ophthalmology or an equivalent qualification. Many ophthalmologists pursue further qualifications and become super-specialists who can treat complex eye problems in the retina, cornea, or other parts.
