Premenstrual syndrome :
Premenstrual syndrome is a combination of physical and emotional symptoms which begins a week before the period. Physical symptoms of Premenstrual syndrome are gassy feeling, pelvic pain, bloating, fatigue, acne flare ups, headaches, breast soreness, diarrhea, and constipation. Emotional symptoms include mood swings, irritability, changes in the sex drive, anxiety, trouble concentrating, brain fog, insomnia, and food cravings. Symptoms are usually seen around the ovulation time when progesterone and estrogen are at increased levels. Risk factors include a history of postpartum depression, a family history of depression and anxiety disorders, and high stress levels. Medications like nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs like ibuprofen, aspirin, naproxen sodium, hormonal birth control, antidepressants and anti anxiety medications like fluoxetine, paroxetine, sertraline, and diuretics can manage symptoms. To relieve pain and mood related symptoms, lifestyle changes like getting regular exercise, eating a diet that is healthy, getting plenty of sleep, practicing yoga and meditation, and avoiding tobacco products can help decrease the pain.
