Vesicovaginal Fistula :
A vesicovaginal fistula can be described as an opening that is formed between the urinary bladder and the vaginal wall. A vesicovaginal fistula can also be known as a bladder fistula. A vesicovaginal fistula leads to the leakage of urine out of the vagina and thus causes discomfort and other issues. The causes of vesicovaginal fistula can be due to trauma during childbirth, diverticulitis, complications arises post surgery of hysterectomy, cancers in pelvic organs, crohn's disease. The symptoms that can be seen when there is a vesicovaginal fistula can be frequent urinary infections, swelling of the vagina, pain during sexual intercourse, pain in vagina, infections in vagina, vaginal discharge with foul smell. The diagnosis of vesicovaginal fistula can be done through X-ray of pelvis, contrast dye CT scan, cytoscopy. The treatment for a vesicovaginal fistula can be done by closing the opening through surgical treatment. In this surgical treatment, a catheter is placed in the vagina to drain the urine out of the urinary bladder.
