Tonsillitis :
Tonsillitis is an inflammation of the tonsils that occurs due to infection. It can be caused by viruses like cold and flu and bacteria like streptococcus. Symptoms of tonsillitis are sore throat, difficulty in swallowing, swollen tonsils, white spots and white coatings on tonsils, fever, lymph node swelling, stomach pain, and vomiting. It can spread through kissing, sharing utensils, foods, and drinks, touching a contaminated surface and then touching the nose and mouth with the same hand, and inhaling droplets when a person sneezes or coughs. Complications include obstructive sleep apnea, peritonsillar abscess, tonsil stones, and cellulitis. If bacterial tonsillitis is untreated, they may develop reactive arthritis, rheumatic fever, scarlet fever, and kidney inflammation. It can be prevented by washing hands often, replacing toothbrushes every three months, and avoiding sharing foods.
