TIA :
TIA (Transient ischemic attack) is a temporary lack of blood flow to the brain cells, which leads to ischemia. It is mainly caused by clot formation in the brain; a fragment of the clot travels through blood and gets stuck in the brain, causing a blockage of small vessels. Symptoms include one sided weakness, loss of speaking ability, slurred speaking, loss of muscle control, sudden loss of smell, taste, and touch, double vision, loss of coordination, vertigo, nausea, vomiting, stiffness of the neck, emotional instability, confusion, memory loss, headaches, and fainting. Risk factors include high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, tobacco use, heart diseases, high cholesterol, obesity, alcohol overuse, and old age. Diagnosis is made by performing a CT scan and can be treated using medications, catheter based procedures, and surgery.
