Syphilis :
Its a sexually transmitted infection when the patient has unprotected sex with an infected individual. It is caused by Treponema pallidum infection. Its occurrence is divided into four stages as primary, secondary, latent, late stages. Usually appears as a sore on mouth, genitals known as chancre in the primary stage which lasts about two to twelve weeks. In the secondary stage it turns into rough, bumpy syphilis rash which is not itchy and might spread to palms and soles. In the latent stage which lasts for about twenty years though there aren't any visible symptoms. It affects the nerves, bones and heart. It rarely progress to late stage as it self resolves or the symptoms are too mild. It does affect the foetus if pregnant women contracts during pregnancy which might lead to low birth weight termination of pregnancy among other. Penicillin is effective in the treatment of syphilis.
