Splenectomy :
Spleen is an important organ of the body which makes the white blood cells that are useful to fight against the diseases. If the spleen is ruptured due to a injury or infected with any cancer it has to be removed which is known as splenectomy. Patients who underwent splenectomy should be more cautious as they are more prone for infections and as there would be depletion of white blood cells in their body. Usually it is done under laparoscopic procedure with a small incision or as open surgery. Some of the complications which might occur during pre operative period and post operative period of splenectomy include formation of blood clots, sepsis which might lead to the death of the patient. A surgeon consultation should be considered before a splenectomy as they would advice certain i.v medications pre operatively and post operatively to build up the immune system. Post procedure if the patient experiences fever, shortness of breath, nausea or vomiting, he or she has to contact the concerned surgeon immediately with out delay and need to get treated.
