Spinal Deformities :
The vertebrae and disks of the spine form a natural curve that can be viewed from the side. If an abnormal curve develops in the spine, it is called a spinal deformity. Spinal deformities are of many kinds. The upper portion may curve forward (kyphosis), the lower portion may curve inward (lordosis), or the spine may curve towards the left or right (scoliosis). Such deformities cause pain, breathing problems, and difficulties in balancing when standing and walking. However, some patients with mild deformities of the spine may not have any symptoms. X-ray is the go-to scan for diagnosing spine deformities. However, CT scans and MRI scans can help find any underlying causes of the abnormal curving of the spine. There are several physical therapies that can correct abnormal curving. Surgery may be required if the pain increases and the spine continues to curve or compresses the organs.
