Snoring :
Snoring is characterized by a grumbling or rattling sound while sleeping that happens when there is an obstruction in the airway. Some people make quiet vibrations while some make sounds like grumbling, whistling, rumbling, snorting, and these sounds of snoring are made differently by each person. People who snore a lot may experience fatigue, wake up with a sore throat, toss and turn during sleeping, feel moody, have difficulty focusing, and have headaches. After physical examination of the nose, mouth and throat for airways, to evaluate snoring, sleep studies are conducted to identify sleep disorders like sleep apnea. The treatment approach to manage snoring involves using certain medications to relieve nasal congestion and thus help to breathe freely, lifestyle modifications, using nasal strips, wearing oral appliances like mouth guards and surgical treatments, depending on the cause like tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy to remove tonsils and adenoids, respectively, and septoplasty to correct the deviated septum.
