Snoring :
Snoring is a disturbing and abnormal sound of breathing which occurs due to obstructions in regular airways. It can also be associated with vibration of throat tissues. Nasal, mouth, tongue based and palatal snoring are all different types of snoring. Medical conditions such as sleep apnea, morbid obesity, certain sleep positions and fatigue can contribute to snoring. Snoring can also cause dry mouth and morning headaches. Management of weight, active lifestyle, sleeping with elevated head position, and relaxation techniques can traditionally help with snoring. An ENT surgeon or pulmonologist can assess the severity of snoring by conducting sleep study tests. Recommendations of nose strips, mandibular advancement devices, C-PAP machine and Bi-PAP machine are made based on patient's requirement. Surgical correction of underlying conditions may be necessary if snoring is causing blockage of the airway.
