Skull fracture :
A skull fracture is described as a break in the bones of the skull. It is a head injury due to trauma, a fall, or a blow to the head. Skull fractures may or may not involve brain damage. There are different types of skull fractures, such as depressed fracture, basilar fracture, linear fracture, diastatic fracture, comminuted fracture, open fracture, and closed fracture. The symptoms seen in skull fractures are bruising, headache, swelling, light and sound sensitivity, nausea, vomiting, leakage of fluid through nose or ear, loss of balance, seizures, memory loss, etc. Skull fractures can be diagnosed with physical examination and imaging tests such as X-rays, CT scans, and MRI scans. Skull fractures can be treated with medications to manage pain, surgery is indicated in some type of fractures, and rehabilitation to regain function. Complications associated with skull fracture can be bleeding in the brain, damage to the brain, seizures, leakage of cerebrospinal fluid causing infection, damage to the cranial nerve, etc.
