Sinusitis :
Sinusitis is a medical inflammatory condition of the lining of sinus cavities. Sinusitis can be an acute, chronic, or recurrent condition depending on the duration and persistence of the underlying sinus symptoms. Facial tenderness and sinus pressure with headaches, and nasal congestion are routinely associated with sinusitis. Occasionally, malodor persists due to thick nasal mucus discharge. An ENT surgeon evaluates the condition by conducting investigatory imaging studies such as CT, MRI scans and nasal endoscopy to estimate the region and extent of sinusitis. Sinusitis can affect all sinus cavities which includes frontal, ethmoidal, maxillary and sphenoid sinus. Initially, the condition is managed with antibiotic courses followed by home remedies and use of nasal irrigation with neti pots. If sinusitis worsens and recurs frequently then surgical maintenance is the preferred choice.
