Sinus Surgery :
Surgery done to any of the sinuses is called as sinus surgery. There are 4 sinuses on our face which are maxillary sinus, frontal sinus, ethmoid sinus, and sphenoid sinus. Sinus surgery is done when there are polyps, infected tissue, sinusitis, enlarged sinus. Most common type of surgery which is done on sinus is known as functional endoscopic sinus surgery also known as FESS. Sinus surgery is done under local anaesthesia on a day care basis. Post operatively patient might feel pain for 2- 3 weeks for which medications would be prescribed by an ENT specialist. Post operatively some of the complications and risks which might occur include bleeding, blurred or loss of vision, meningitis and unable to breathe completely. Staying hydrated and head end elevation during sleep might be advised post operatively. Regular follow up with an ENT specialist is mandatory for few weeks post operatively as they would asses the progress of the patient and modify the treatment accordingly.
