Renal Diet :
A renal diet or a kidney-friendly diet involves eating foods that support the good health and functioning of the kidneys. The diet is suggested for individuals who have weak or diseased kidneys. It helps improve kidney health by reducing the amount of waste the kidneys need to filter. This reduction in blood wastes is achieved by avoiding foods rich in sodium, protein, and phosphorus. If an individual has a kidney condition that requires dialysis, then a doctor may also suggest limiting fluid intake.
Though a renal diet may seem extremely restrictive, there are plenty of foods that an individual can safely eat. An individual on this diet can eat egg whites, fish, berries, carrots, cabbage and cauliflower without any hesitation. Lentils, beans, nuts and oatmeal can be consumed in moderation. The doctor may encourage eating rice, pasta, white bread and plant-based butter and milk.
