Perthes disease :
Perthe's disease, also known as legg clave disease, is a rare condition where children's hips are affected. It is seen between two to twelve years of age and is most common in boys. It occurs due to poor blood supply to the head of the femur bone, which eventually leads to death. Symptoms include hip pain, limp, muscle spasms, leg cramps, abnormal walking patterns, limited range of motion, muscle atrophy, and discrepancy in leg length. Factors that influence the development of Perthe's disease are delayed skeletal growth, short stature, low birth weight, blood clotting disorders, abnormal teeth, low socioeconomic status, HIV infection, and injury during sports or gymnastics. Diagnosis is made by thorough physical examination, X-rays and MRI Scan. Treatment may include restricted activity on the affected hip, NSAIDs, physical therapy, traction, casts, and surgery.
