Pelvic Inflammatory Disease :
Pelvic inflammatory disease can be described as a bacterial infection due to the transmission of bacteria from the vagina into the reproductive organs. Sexually transmitted infections can be caused due to bacteria and also leads to the pelvic inflammatory disease. Many cases of pelvic inflammatory disease are caused due to having unprotected sex. The symptoms that can be identified when there is pelvic inflammatory disease can be fever, tenderness in stomach, chills, pain during sex, pain in the lower abdomen, burning sensation during urination, irregular periods, abnormal discharge from vagina. Pelvic inflammatory disease can be diagnosed through pelvic examination, and vaginal culture is done to detect the bacteria. The other tests which can be done to diagnose are urine tests, test for sexually transmitted infections, blood tests, ultrasound scan, endometrial biopsy, laparoscopy. Pelvic inflammatory disease can be treated with medications such as antibiotics, surgical treatment can be done in rare cases when there is formation of pus.
