Papilloedema :
Papilloedema is an eye problem that usually affects the optic disc, which is present at ends of the eye. It usually happens due to swelling or build-up of increased pressure in the brain, which results in optic disc swelling. Patients experience symptoms like blurred vision, loss of vision, double vision, headache, nausea and vomiting. Additionally, patients who have complications like inflammation of the brain, cerebral edema, infections associated with the brain and other related issues increase the risk of these symptoms. This is treated with an ophthalmologist or eye care doctor, who prescribes significant diagnostic tests like CT scans, blood tests, evaluation of cerebrospinal fluid, and MRI scans to evaluate underlying conditions. Treatment includes antibiotics to prevent infections in the brain and surgical intervention is used to dissolve any blood clots and to remove abscesses.
