Nephritis :

An swelling of the kidney which also involves other parts of the kidney like glomeruli, tubules and tissuesis known as nephritis. Some of the causes for developing nephritis are genetic factors, prolonged use of antibiotics or pain medication, infections such as HIV and viral hepatitis, or due to some underlying disease like uncontrolled hypertension and diabetes mellitus or unhealthy life style like smoking. Symptoms of patients include swelling of feet, hands and face due to fluid accumulation and change in the colour and frequency of urination. Diagnosis is generally made by complete history taking, basic blood investigations, Complete urine examination in which presence of protein can be seen, and ultrasound abdomen. Treatment depends upon the type of nephritis, An acute nephritis may require only medications like small dose of diuretics where as patients with chronic nephritis might be advised regular follow up with nephrologist and control of underlying disease. Life style modification and as well as dietary advise may be suggested for the patients with nephritis.
