Nephrectomy :
Removal of kidney by a surgical procedure is called as nephrectomy. Some of the reasons for nephrectomy are removal of cancer, trauma, birth defects , infection, trauma and kidney failure. Generally the nephrectomy is done by a laproscopic method which requires a short stay in the hospital. There are two types of nephrectomy 1. complete removal of the kidney and 2. partial removal of the kidney i.e removing a part of kidney which is infected . Risks involved during nephrectomy are damage to the surrounding organs, bleeding , infection , kidney failure , abdominal discomfort . A urologist may suggest few investigations like ultrasound , CT and MRI before considering the patient for nephrectomy. Life style modifications like having a balanced diet, maintaining a proper weight might be suggested.
