Kidney infection :
Kidney infection, also known as pyelonephritis, is a type of urinary tract infection that begins in the tube that carries urine from the body to the urinary bladder. It may caused by the infection of bacteria like E. coli, proteus mirabilis, enterobacter, and Staphylococcus. Symptoms include fever, chills, pain in the lower back, pain while peeing, cloudy pee, blood in the pee, foul odor, and urgency to pee. Factors that influence the risk of kidney infection are blockage due to kidney stones, enlarged prostate, uterine prolapse, vesicoureteral reflux, women with shorter urethra, and medical conditions like diabetes, HIV, and immunosuppressive conditions. Complications of kidney infection are emphysematous pyelonephritis and renal papillary necrosis. Diagnosis is made by urinalysis, CT scan, and renal ultrasound. It can be prevented by drinking plenty of fluids, emptying the bladder, peeing before and after sex, and practicing good hygiene.
