Hysterectomy :

Patients with excessive vaginal bleed, multiple fibroids, cervical cancer, prolapse of uterus are generally advised for the removal of uterus. This is also known as hysterectomy. Removal of uterus can be partial or complete depending upon the underlying disease. Hysterectomy can be done under general anaesthesia or spinal anaesthesia. It can be done under laproscopy or open. Latest advancement in hysterectomy is it can also be a robotic assisted procedure which takes one to three hours.

Patients might experience menopause immediately after surgery which is also known as surgical menopause.

Pre procedure the doctor may advise basic blood investigations, ultrasound and a clearence from a cardiologist and anaesthesia if the patient has some underlying disease.

Some of the complications which might include during post operative period are blood clots , severe bleeding and an injury to the surrounding organs.

Patient might need to stay upto one week post surgery and a complete recovery would take upto three to four weeks.

A doctor might advise pain killers for a couple of weeks inorder to releive the patient from pain.
