HPV :
HPV refers to Human Papillomavirus. HPV causes sexually transmitted diseases, which affect the genitals and mainly induce genital warts. These genital warts are rough, cauliflower like lumps growing on the skin that may present as skin tags. Genital warts cause an itching sensation and discomfort and are a communicable type of disease. Apart from genital warts, HPV also causes plantar warts, flat warts, periungal warts and subungal warts on other parts of the body. People with HIV find it difficult to fight this infection, and the HPV virus spreads through sexual contact. The complications of HPV virus are penile cancer, anal cancer, vaginal cancer, vulvar cancer and throat cancer. The treatment modalities to manage HPV are loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP), cryosurgery, cold knife cone biopsy, electrocautery, laser therapy, prescription cream and trichloroacetic acid (TCA).
