Head Lice :
Head lice are tiny six-legged crawling insects that live in hair and feed on the blood of a human scalp. Each louse is about a sesame seed size and hard to spot. It is commonly seen in children who go to school. Symptoms of head lice include tickling, itching, sores from scratching, and difficulty sleeping. Head lice can crawl from person to person by sharing items like combs, brushes, and hats. Lice can't fly or jump, and this is not caused due to poor hygiene. They can be seen with the naked eye and can be in white, brown, and dark gray color. Diagnosis can be made by visual inspection. Nits can be attached to the hair strands and are hard to remove. A fine-toothed comb can loosen them. Treatment includes medicated shampoos, lotions, and creams that can eliminate head lice. It can be prevented by avoiding head to head contact when playing and by not sharing hats and other items with others.
