Graves Disease :
Graves disease is an autoimmune disease that increases thyroid hormone production. The disease can also affect the skin and the eyes. The excess release of thyroid hormones results in the speeding up of the metabolism. So, an individual with graves disease may pass stools more often or experience diarrhea. Other symptoms of graves disease include anxiety, excess sweating, shortness of breath, enlarged thyroid gland, hair loss, difficulty sleeping, and weight loss.
The diagnosis of this disease involves blood tests and a thyroid ultrasound. Though there is no cure for Graves disease, a doctor can prescribe medications to manage it. The prescribed medications control the thyroid hormone levels in the body and provide relief from the symptoms. In some cases, an endocrinologist may recommend radioiodine therapy or surgery to remove the thyroid.
