Fungal Skin Infections :
Fungus is a microbe that can attach itself to the skin, hair or nails and cause unusual symptoms. Fungal infections usually occur when an individual comes into contact with an animal or person who has a fungal infection. Fungal infections can also occur due to sharing clothes or other personal items with others. The symptoms of a fungal skin infection include changes in skin colour, scaling of the skin and skin sores that are filled with pus.
Some of the common fungal skin infections include athlete's foot (infection between the toes), ringworm, candida infection and pityriasis versicolor. A dermatologist can diagnose a fungal skin infection by doing a physical examination of the affected area. In some cases, a sample of the affected skin may be collected and analyzed in a lab to confirm the diagnosis. The treatment of fungal skin infections may involve antifungal creams that are applied on the skin. A dermatologist may also prescribe oral medications to reduce the growth of fungus.
