Eye Infection :
An eye infection is a disease in which a microbe, such as a fungus or bacteria, overgrows in the eyes. Some of the common eye infections include cellulitis, pink eye, stye, blepharitis and uveitis. The symptoms of an eye infection include eye pain, swelling, red eyes, discharge from the eyes and itching in the eyes. An individual with an eye infection may also complain of fever and blurry vision.
The diagnosis of an eye infection involves a thorough eye exam. In some cases, the doctor may swab the discharge from the eye and send it to a lab for testing. The treatment of the infection may involve eye drops, oral medications or ointments. An ophthalmologist may also suggest applying damp or cool compresses to the eyes for relief from the symptoms.
