Eye cancer :
Ocular, or eye cancer is the growth of malignant cells in or around the eye. In all three types of growth, which begin in different areas of the eye, the tumor starts in a group of cells called a clone, either in the retina (retinoblastoma, with its highest incidence among children), the uveal tract (uveal melanoma, with its highest incidence in adults), or the eyelids, where it often appears as basal cell carcinoma.
The actual causes of ocular cancer are not well established but predisposition of the disease by a person's genetics, exposure to ultraviolet light, hereditary disorders, and previous trauma or injury to an eye, among others, may contribute to its causation.Actually common signs of ocular cancer include blurred vision, a floater phenomenon, changes in the appearance of one eye, a visible growth on the eyelid, redness or swelling, flashes of light, and even partial loss of vision.Diagnosis of eye cancer generally involves a detailed ophthalmological eye examination and several imaging studies like ultrasound, CT scan, or MRI as determined by the spread of the cancer. The treatment will depend on the type and extent of the cancer and may include surgical tumor removal, radioactive elements or chemotherapy. Probably the greatest chance for a patient to be cured completely is early detection through routine eye examinations.
