Duodenoscopy :
Duodenoscopy is a diagnostic procedure also known as esophago-gastro-duodenoscopy[EGD]. Its an imaging modality normally advised for patients with upper GI issues. It is used to visualize oropharynx, esophagus, stomach, proximal duodenum. Used generally for diagnostic purposes as GERD, hematemesis, chronic diarrhea, chronic blood loss, weight loss, acute injury, malabsorption, IBS, malignancies. It can be used for therapeutic purposes as foreign body removal, esophageal variceal ligation, placing of feeding or draining tubes, controlling upper gastrointestinal bleed. Its contraindicate din perforated bowels and peritonitis. Patients are advised not to consume liquids and solids two and six hours prior to the procedure respectively. A gastroscope is used for this procedure. Sedation might be required to provide for comfort the patient.
