Diphtheria :
Diphtheria is a highly contagious bacterial infection caused by Corynebacterium diphtheria. It spreads through the bloodstream and releases a toxin that builds up in the throat, nose, tongue, and airway and causes serious breathing and swallowing problems. The spread of infection is due to direct contact with a person, contact with droplets from sneezing and coughing, or by touching objects like cups or used tissue that have bacteria. Symptoms include fever, chills, swollen glands, cough, sore throat, bluish skin, drooling, discomfort, changes in vision, slurred speech, pale and cold skin, sweating, signs of shock, and a rapid heartbeat. Swollen lymph nodes and throat culture can confirm diagnosis. It can be prevented by using antibiotics and vaccines.
