Delayed Puberty :
This condition is defined by the early onset of physical changes of maturation later than the usual age. For instance, it may mean girls do not develop breast starting by the age of 13 years, while in boys, it may be identified by no testicular enlargement occurring by the age of 14 years. Constitutional delay has become one of the most common and harmless conditions. It represents a delay in average onset but with normal development pattern in puberty, whereas causes can be related to hormonal imbalances, chronic illnesses, malnutrition, or genetic conditions. Symptoms of this condition include lack of growth spurts, failure to develop sexual characteristics, and delayed bone development. Treatment is based on the cause. Some conditions may not require any treatment at all. If a hormonal condition is detected, hormone therapy with estrogen or testosterone supplements may be prescribed. A medical evaluation is fundamental in the diagnosis process.
