Colposcopy :
Colposcopy is a diagnostic test conducted to look at the cervix, vulva, and the wall of the vagina for any signs of pre-cancerous tissues and cancerous conditions. Colposcopy is indicated to identify abnormalities and is done using a lighted microscope called a colposcope. Colposcopy is recommended for women with abnormal Pap test or Pap smear results, a positive HPV test, or those who have presented abnormal results during a pelvic exam. The measures to be followed before doing the procedure of colposcopy include sharing the pregnancy status with their doctor, avoiding vaginal penetration for forty eight hours before the colposcopy and taking a pain reliever on the day of procedure. One should not get a colposcopy done during menstruation. After colposcopy with biopsy, slight pain in the vagina, light vaginal bleeding and vaginal discharge that is black or brown in color is observed for a few days.
