Cholecystitis :
The gallbladder is a small organ that stores and releases digestive juices into the small intestine. When this organ swells up and becomes irritated, it is referred to as cholecystitis. This inflammation of the gallbladder usually occurs due to an obstruction, which may be caused by gallstones, tumors, or sludge. Cholecystitis leads to symptoms like vomiting, nausea, pain in the upper-right belly, and tenderness over the area. Leaving this condition untreated can be lethal. It may cause an infection or tearing of the gallbladder or even the death of the organ's tissues. The condition is diagnosed with an ultrasound exam or CT scan. Blood tests and HIDA scans may also be required. Surgery is often required to remove the blockage in the gallbladder or remove the gallbladder entirely. If the organ is removed, the body directly relies on the liver to digest the food.
