Bow Legs :
Bow legs, also known as genu varum, are conditions where the knees do not touch and appear curved outwards when standing. It is most commonly seen between 12 to 18 months of age. It is mainly caused by a twist of the baby’s legs that confines tightly in the womb. Other causes include abnormal development of shins and shins below the knees, bone dysplasia, lead poisoning, fluoride poisoning, achondroplasia dwarfism, poorly healed bone, Paget’s disease, and rickets. Risk factors include childhood obesity and family history. Symptoms include knee pain, hip pain, reduced range of hip motion, difficulty walking and running, knee instability, and feeling unhappy with the appearance. It can be prevented by taking an adequate amount of vitamin D, maintaining a healthy body weight, preventing injuries to the knee joint, and stabilizing the knees.
