Bed Wetting :
Bed wetting refers to involuntary urination while asleep. It usually affects children between the ages of 4 and 6. However, it can also affect adults and senior citizens. Bed wetting may occur due to an overactive bladder, stress, family history of the problem or an underlying medical condition. Hormonal problems, urinary tract infections and small size of the bladder can also cause bed wetting.
A doctor can determine the underlying cause of bed wetting with a physical exam, X-rays, urine tests and other tests. Young children often stop wetting the bed on their own without any treatment. However, if the problem persists or if it affects adults, then treatment may be required. A doctor may prescribe medications, suggest the use of a bedwetting alarm, provide bladder training and suggest changes in the diet and fluid intake.
