Aphasia :
Aphasia is a language disorder that affects the person's ability to speak, listen, read, and write. They are classified into different types based on the conditions of the patient. The person with aphasia shows symptoms like speaking in incomplete sentences, unrecognizable words, replacing one word for another, and sentences that do not make sense, having difficulty finding words, and inability to understand the conversation or the sentences they read. The major causes of aphasia are stroke, traumatic brain injury, brain tumor, brain infection, brain inflammation, and neurologic conditions like dementia and Alzheimer's. It can be diagnosed through examination by the doctor, blood tests, CT scan, EEG, MRI, and PET scans. Treatment plans include medical management and speech therapy. Early and continuous intervention by ENT, Neuro-physician and Speech therapist is needed for better care and management for aphasia patients to avoid complications like frustration, anger, isolation, and depression and lead a healthy and balanced life.
