Amblyopia :
Amblyopia is a condition in which an individual cannot see clearly out of one eye. The condition is also known as lazy eye, and it usually develops in childhood. When the condition develops and the vision gets blurry in one eye, the brain starts to ignore that eye. For this reason, the vision in the ignored eye gets worse over time.
A child affected by amblyopia may bump into objects, shut one eye, tilt their head to one side or appear cross-eyed. An affected child may also have a droopy eyelid. An ophthalmologist can detect this condition with a comprehensive eye exam. The treatment may involve putting an eyepatch on the child for a few hours of the day. The child may also require eyeglasses and medicated eye drops. In some cases, surgery is required to fix the problem.
